Beautiful Maui Hawaii Attractions
We have been coming to Maui for more than 30 years. Maui is a special place, several of us have had our honeymoons here at the Pikake and several family milestones were reached here. The Hawaiian people are some of the most creative, thoughtful, beautiful people you will ever meet. Of course, this is a different culture, focused on the ocean, nature, leading a quiet life. Don't be a loudmouth, type A tourist. Fit into the Aloha mindset and kick back a couple of clicks. Smile, don't be in a hurry, honor the land and the people. You will be rewarded by big smiles and a great time in this heavenly place. When you get off the plane, sniff the air – even with jet fuel and all the smells of an airport, you will smell flowers if you pay attention. You will smell them the whole trip. Set up your rental car ahead of time with a company that is on the airport premises and where your whole check in is done, so you just walk out to your car. It's a little more expensive, but worth it. As always, in any place, don't leave your valuables around or visible. Petty crime happens in paradise, too, and you are not there long enough for any type of investigation to recover your valuables. Make sure your rental car always looks empty, so no one is tempted to break in. Lock the condo and close the windows and blinds if you are heading out for awhile. We've never had anything stolen but we've heard of it happening. Don't drive drunk – really tempting while on vacation, but the punishments are stiff and the police know where to be to find the drunk drivers. The roads are narrow and you need to be sober to negotiate them. There are some folks in the towns who may offer to sell you marijuana or other drugs. They are just as illegal in Maui as the mainland. I doubt you can tell the difference between the real dealers and the police. Don't do it. Besides, who wants to be high and have all those beautiful sights, sounds and smells dulled by drugs? As with any beach, if you are not an expert on the ocean, stay in the shallow, calm water. Never never never turn your back on the ocean. All of us have been flattened by waves that we were not looking for and that really hurts, can be dangerous.
Maui Activities & Entertainment
There are so many things to do in Maui, even a month long vacation will not hit them all, so this is just a few of our favorites. It's literally impossible to do everything there. We lean toward the more eco-friendly activities, so we didn't include jetskiing, parasailing, speedboat rides, etc.. As with many places, it is our advice to ignore the "free activities" where you are hit with a timeshare lecture first.
Maui Restaurants & Dining
We aren't a picky group, (just happy to get to eat out), and we generally are happy wherever we go in Maui, but there are some places that stand out to us. In no particular order, here are our favorites. Remember, food is expensive on the island, so we always look for good food that isn't so pricey.
